Education

The Cemetery welcomes more than 200,000 visitors each year, many of whom attend an event sponsored by the Friends. Our yearly calendar of more than 100 programs includes talks, concerts, workshops, and tours for groups of all ages and interests. Share your passion for the Cemetery as a volunteer docent, greeting people at our Visitors Center or leading walking tours.  At this time there are no openings for new docents.  When a new docent training is scheduled it will be announced on the website and in the public programs brochure.

Horticulture

Our renowned horticultural collection includes both historic and newer plantings. In recent years, we have focused on increasing habitat for wildlife by designing wildflower meadows and using native plant species. We rely on volunteer to help tend our experimental gardens, assist with greenhouse operations, and help the Plant Collections staff with projects.

Historical Collections

Mount Auburn’s historical collections contain documents, maps, and photographs chronicling the Cemetery’s 180-year evolution. Help make our holdings more easily accessible by working alongside our curator to process archival materials.
