Spring 2026 Cemetery Services Newsletter

Initially Published: April 2026

As spring unfolds, Mount Auburn is awakening in fresh and meaningful ways. For those wishing to experience the blossoming landscape in the tranquility of the early morning, Mount Auburn’s main entrance is once again open to both pedestrians and vehicles beginning at 6 AM, throughout April and May. Over the coming months, the Egyptian Revival Gate will transform into a new Welcome Center, offering a more inviting entry experience featuring enhanced visitor resources, beautifully curated plantings, and areas to gather. Upon the project's completion in the early summer, this work will introduce a new traffic flow for those arriving to the Cemetery.
Additionally, small but important improvements are taking shape on Chapel Avenue and the lawn opposite Bigelow Chapel, where added lighting and electrical enhancements will help create a more accessible and welcoming setting for all who gather there for private and public events.
We invite you to visit our website for the latest updates and to learn more about what is blooming across the grounds.

Seasonal Work Begins

As warmer weather arrives, monument setting, inscription work, and memorial washing will resume. If you would like to request a work order or follow up on an outstanding work order, please reach out to our Client Relations team.
This winter was extra cold followed by deep snow that stayed a long time, which can cause soil compaction. We expect grass in some areas will need more recovery time this spring and there may be more visible settling. When the turf team regrades settled graves, there is fresh soil and loam put down to give new grass seed a better chance to germinate. This can sometimes look like the earth has been dug up, but it is only extra soil being spread over top.
The lingering snow also caused the February Clean Sweep to be skipped. The next scheduled Clean Sweeps are the weeks of April 21 and June 8.

Tributes that are expired are routinely collected as part of our landscape care. Please visit the Tributes page of our website for more information.

Remembering Your Loved Ones

As we approach Memorial Day, our online Tribute Store will open for preorders on April 21, offering a meaningful way to honor and remember your loved ones.

Complimentary flags will be available on-site beginning Friday, May 22. For those unable to visit in person, flag placement may be preordered through our Tribute Store.
