Therapeutic Art Workshop: Nature-Based Memorials

Spending time in nature can ground us and provide a sense of connection to something larger than ourselves. Nature-based art can be used to create memorials and tributes, fostering a sense of connection and remembrance. In this therapeutic art workshop, participants will be guided in creating personal, ephemeral, nature-based art to memorialize and honor things they hold dear to them, for example a loved one, pet, our ancestors, a special community member, or even a place. We’ll discuss different forms of grief and how artists have incorporated nature into their art about loss, collect natural elements from the Cemetery and use them in individual art, and conclude the workshop by creating a collaborative group mandala. All necessary art materials will be provided and no artistic experience necessary/all skill levels are welcome.

This workshop will be facilitated by artist, board-certified art therapist, and licensed mental health counselor Dr. Lauren Leone, who works with art therapy participants in clinical and community-based settings in Massachusetts.
