Respecting Birds, People, and History at Mount Auburn Cemetery
Celebrate National Public Gardens Day! David Barnett and Regina Harrison will review some of the changes made over the past 20 years to Mount Auburn’s landscape to improve wildlife habitat value while also preserving the historic character and respecting the fact it is still an active cemetery. Examples highlighted will include restoration of the native woodland in Consecration Dell, establishment of a wildflower meadow near Washington Tower, and wetland habitat improvements in Willow Pond and Auburn Lake. The challenges of managing an urban multi-use human landscape with avian habitat in mind will be discussed.
Funding for programs has been provided in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
