SUMMARY:Outdoor Watercolor & Sketch Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Mount Auburn for an outdoor watercolor class\, taking in the beauty of the landscape and learning about watercolor composition. \n\n\n\n\nTaking in the beauty of Mount Auburn Cemetery\, we will take a short 10 minute walk from Story Chapel (across from the front entrance of the Cemetery) to a spot where you will choose your composition. You will learn how to lightly pencil in a “map” of your color-shape areas\, how to organize elements in the landscape\, how to find spatial planes\, then how to slowly build up layers of translucent watercolors to create space and depth while imbuing your watercolor with a beautiful sense of light. \nStudents who don’t bring watercolors may still take part in this class by sketching or drawing the scenes around you with instruction. Clipboards with paper and pencils will be provided. \nThere will also be folding chairs to sit on at the class location. \nRecommended: Bring a water bottle and supplies from the list below. \nBathrooms and a water bottle filling station are located at the meeting location\, near Story Chapel. Use these before we head out on our walk and to our class location. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE>>\nThis class will be taught by Amanda Annis. Amanda loves teaching and has taught for 20 years at the Boston Center for Adult Education\, including classes in figurative clay sculpture\, watercolor and drawing\, and subsequently\, continued teaching in her studio. Amanda holds a masters from the Univ. of NC at Greensboro in sculpture\, where she also studied bronze casting\, and has studied in NYC and Paris\, as well as an undergraduate degree from Brandeis in Fine Arts (studio). \n… \nMaterials list: \nWATERCOLORS – recommended: professional grade for more vibrant color. Buy a set like Sennelier French Artists’ Watercolors – Set of 14\, Travel\, Half Pans OR purchase individual pans or tubes. \nCOLORS TO START: \nRed deep* \nYellow pale or lemon* \nYellow deep* \nBurnt umber \nRaw siena \nUltramarine blue \nCobalt blue \nViridian green \n*If buying individually\, avoid cadmiums\, they are toxic. \nWATERCOLOR PALETTE (OR OLD PLATE): if not included with a set/or bring extra. \nBRUSHES: 2 or more brushes (large size 10\, and smaller size 7 or 9\, synthetic or sable). \nPAPER: Mix media/Multi Technique pad 60 sheets (side spiral)\, 7X10 inches. The series features musical settings composed by Bichner and Goh for classic poems in both French and English; inspired by the works of Phillis Wheatley\, Ovid\, Edgar Allan Poe\, Benjamin Franklin\, Emily Dickinson\, and more.
