SUMMARY:Birds of Prey at Mount Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Join licensed raptor rehabilitators Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks as they lead a live educational program on Raptors of the Northeast. \n\n\n\n\nJulie and Jim of WINGMASTERS will introduce attendees to live birds of prey native to New England. This presentation will explain predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. \nTwo sessions are being offered on Sunday\, August 23 at 10:30am and1:00pm. Space is limited\, Registration required. \nPLEASE NOTE: By request of program facilitators\, this event is for ages 6 and up only. All attendees must be at least 6 years old to attend. \nCapacity: 100 people per showing \n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE>>\n… \nFor the safety of the raptors\, recording\, videotaping\, or broadcasting the program is strictly prohibited. Thank You! \nFor questions about this event\, please contact Caroline Hutchinson at chutchinson@mountauburn.org. \n… \nBirds of prey are also known as raptors\, and they are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons (the word raptor comes from a Latin word that means “to seize”). Raptors can also boast the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom. Raptors include hawks\, falcons and owls\, and this presentation\, which incorporates 6-7 LIVE birds of prey\, all native to New England\, gives an overview of these different categories. The program is designed to explain predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Because many birds of prey are declining in number\, this presentation also features one or more of the endangered raptors that WINGMASTERS cares for\, and explains why these species face an uncertain future. \n… \nExperience a deeper connection to Mount Auburn Cemetery with free or discounted access to all our public programs and special events by joining the Friends of Mount Auburn. Our robust roster of programs each year is made possible by the generous support of our donors and in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. \nFor inquiries about accessibility\, to request an accommodation\, or if you have any questions about your membership\, please contact friends@mountauburn.org. \nMount Auburn is proud to participate in MCC’s Card to Culture Program. Click here to learn more. \nRefund Policy: \nRefunds and exchanges for events at Mount Auburn Cemetery are available up to 5 business days prior to the event.* Cancellations made after this deadline are not eligible for a refund and the order amount will be donated to support future programs and initiatives. \nIf Mount Auburn Cemetery decides to cancel an event\, all ticket holders will be notified and automatically refunded. \n*This policy excludes special events. Refund policies for special events will be listed directly on their event page. Exchanges are only applicable to events with multiple occurrences.

SUMMARY:Nature and Mount Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a mindful walk through the landscape\, exploring the history and founding of Mount Auburn Cemetery. \n\n\n\n\nFrom its beginning\, Mount Auburn Cemetery has drawn on nature as a resource for comfort\, a focus of study\, and a guide for developing its sacred landscape. Its founding\, in 1831\, influenced the expansion of garden cemeteries\, the future development of landscape architecture\, and the national park movement. \nThis tour will include visits to the Asa Gray Garden\, Consecration Dell\, and the monuments of Jacob Bigelow\, Margaret Fuller\, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Expect to enhance your understanding of the cemetery’s rich history\, and learn how the study of botany\, transcendentalism\, and environmental neuroscience has helped us to understand the ways that nature sustains and inspires us. \nTour Guide: Barry J. Kahn \nBarry J. Kahn is one of twenty volunteer docents who staff the Welcome Center at Mount Auburn Cemetery. When he retired as a social worker in July 2025\, Barry began to create a tour centered on illuminating how places\, like Mount Auburn Cemetery\, promote peace of mind. \nComfortable walking shoes recommended. \nCheck-in at Welcome Center \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nREGISTER HERE>>\n  \nExperience a deeper connection to Mount Auburn Cemetery with free or discounted access to all our public programs and special events by joining the Friends of Mount Auburn.
