SUMMARY:Printing With the Sun: Cyanotypes Book Talk & Workshop with Madge Evers
DESCRIPTION:Join author and artist Madge Evers to celebrate the release of Printing With the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature With Cyanotypes. \n\n\n\n\nJoin author and former Artist-in-Residence Madge Evers (2022-2023) to celebrate the release of Printing With the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature With Cyanotypes. Madge will talk about her book\, share her own history with the cyanotype process\, and introduce its 19th-century origins. She will then conduct a live demonstration of how the process works. Finally\, Madge will also provide an opportunity for attendees to enjoy a simple hands-on activity\, creating a cyanotype bookmark to take home. \nCyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue\, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. \nCyanotypes were first introduced by the astronomer\, scientist\, and botanist John Herschel in 1841. The cyanotype process was later used by botanist Anna Atkins Atkins to make the first ever photographic book in 1843. \nCheck in for this event will be in Story Chapel. \nEvent capacity limited to 20 participants. \n\n\nREGISTER HERE>>\n  \nExperience a deeper connection to Mount Auburn Cemetery with free or discounted access to all our public programs and special events by joining the Friends of Mount Auburn. SUMMARY:Birds of Prey at Mount Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Join licensed raptor rehabilitators Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks as they lead a live educational program on Raptors of the Northeast. \n\n\n\n\nJulie and Jim of WINGMASTERS will introduce attendees to live birds of prey native to New England. This presentation will explain predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. \nTwo sessions are being offered on Sunday\, August 23 at 10:30am and1:00pm. Space is limited\, Registration required. \nPLEASE NOTE: By request of program facilitators\, this event is for ages 6 and up only. All attendees must be at least 6 years old to attend. \nCapacity: 100 people per showing \n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE>>\n… \nFor the safety of the raptors\, recording\, videotaping\, or broadcasting the program is strictly prohibited. Thank You! \nFor questions about this event\, please contact Caroline Hutchinson at chutchinson@mountauburn.org. \n… \nBirds of prey are also known as raptors\, and they are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons (the word raptor comes from a Latin word that means “to seize”). Raptors can also boast the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom. Raptors include hawks\, falcons and owls\, and this presentation\, which incorporates 6-7 LIVE birds of prey\, all native to New England\, gives an overview of these different categories. The program is designed to explain predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Because many birds of prey are declining in number\, this presentation also features one or more of the endangered raptors that WINGMASTERS cares for\, and explains why these species face an uncertain future. \n… \nExperience a deeper connection to Mount Auburn Cemetery with free or discounted access to all our public programs and special events by joining the Friends of Mount Auburn. Our robust roster of programs each year is made possible by the generous support of our donors and in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. \nFor inquiries about accessibility\, to request an accommodation\, or if you have any questions about your membership\, please contact friends@mountauburn.org. \nMount Auburn is proud to participate in MCC’s Card to Culture Program.
