SUMMARY:Outdoor Watercolor & Sketch Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Mount Auburn for an outdoor watercolor class\, taking in the beauty of the landscape and learning about watercolor composition. \n\n\n\n\nTaking in the beauty of Mount Auburn Cemetery\, we will take a short 5-minute walk from Story Chapel (across from the front entrance of the Cemetery) to a spot where you will choose your composition. You will learn how to lightly pencil in a “map” of your color-shape areas\, how to organize elements in the landscape\, how to find spatial planes\, then how to slowly build up layers of translucent watercolors to create space and depth while imbuing your watercolor with a beautiful sense of light. \nStudents who don’t bring watercolors may still take part in this class by sketching or drawing the scenes around you with instruction. Clipboards with paper and pencils will be provided. \nThere will also be folding chairs to sit on at the class location. \nRecommended: Bring a bottle of drinking water\, and supplies from the list below. \nBathrooms and a water bottle filling station are located at the meeting location\, near Story Chapel. Use these before we head out on our walk and to our class location. \n… \nThis class will be taught by Amanda Annis. Amanda loves teaching and taught for 20 years at the Boston Center for Adult Education\, including classes in figurative clay sculpture\, watercolor and drawing\, and continued teaching in her own studio. DESCRIPTION:An outdoor Guided Meditation\, Relaxation and Sound Experience. \n\n\n\n\nSound Healing practitioner Marlene Boyette welcomes all to be held by the earth\, to find refuge\, to rest\, and to be led through a guided meditation intended to bring the mind and the body into unison\, while also engaging the senses. SUMMARY:Birds of Prey at Mount Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Join licensed raptor rehabilitators Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks as they lead a live educational program on Raptors of the Northeast. \n\n\n\n\nJulie and Jim of WINGMASTERS will introduce attendees to live birds of prey native to New England. This presentation will explain predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. \nTwo sessions are being offered on Sunday\, August 23 at 10:30am and1:00pm. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Mount Auburn for an outdoor watercolor class\, taking in the beauty of the landscape and learning about watercolor composition. \n\n\n\n\nTaking in the beauty of Mount Auburn Cemetery\, we will take a short 10 minute walk from Story Chapel (across from the front entrance of the Cemetery) to a spot where you will choose your composition. You will learn how to lightly pencil in a “map” of your color-shape areas\, how to organize elements in the landscape\, how to find spatial planes\, then how to slowly build up layers of translucent watercolors to create space and depth while imbuing your watercolor with a beautiful sense of light. \nStudents who don’t bring watercolors may still take part in this class by sketching or drawing the scenes around you with instruction. Clipboards with paper and pencils will be provided. \nThere will also be folding chairs to sit on at the class location. \nRecommended: Bring a water bottle and supplies from the list below. \nBathrooms and a water bottle filling station are located at the meeting location\, near Story Chapel. DESCRIPTION:Join author and artist Madge Evers to celebrate the release of Printing With the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature With Cyanotypes. \n\n\n\n\nJoin author and former Artist-in-Residence Madge Evers (2022-2023) to celebrate the release of Printing With the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature With Cyanotypes. Madge will talk about her book\, share her own history with the cyanotype process\, and introduce its 19th-century origins. She will then conduct a live demonstration of how the process works. Finally\, Madge will also provide an opportunity for attendees to enjoy a simple hands-on activity\, creating a cyanotype bookmark to take home. \nCyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue\, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. \nCyanotypes were first introduced by the astronomer\, scientist\, and botanist John Herschel in 1841.
