Presenting Lady Romeo: The Radical, Revolutionary Life of Charlotte Cushman, America’s First Celebrity in conversation with Alexis Coe

The Friends of Mount Auburn welcomes Tana Wojczuk for a discussion of her debut biography Lady Romeo: The Radical, Revolutionary Life of Charlotte Cushman, America’s First Celebrity (Simon & Schuster, 2020). She will be joined in conversation with Alexis Coe, author of You Never Forget Your First. Charlotte Cushman is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Wojczuk’s book explores the remarkable life and cultural impact of the queer, 19th-century Shakespearean actress. Now available in paperback, Lady Romeo has been named a finalist by the LAMBDA literary awards and Publishing Triangle Awards.

Tana Wojczuk is a senior nonfiction editor at Guernica magazine and teaches writing at New York University. She has an MFA in nonfiction from Columbia University where she formerly taught. Originally from Boulder, Colorado, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Alexis Coe is an American political historian. She is the New York Times Bestselling Author of You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George of Washington, now out in paperback, and Alice+Freda Forever: A Murder in Memphis, soon to be a major motion picture. Alexis lives in Brooklyn, New York.
