David Benedict is becoming one of the premier figures in the mandolin world. After graduating with a mandolin music performance degree and spending a 3-year stint in Nashville touring and recording with acclaimed bass player Missy Raines, David was looking for the next chapter in his musical career. So in 2017, he made the move to Boston to join the bluegrass band Mile Twelve. The group quickly gained notice after the release of their debut album Onwards, receiving the 2017 IBMA Band Momentum Award and touring extensively around the US, Canada, England, France, Belgium, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. David also claimed the 2018 IBMA Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the Year. Additionally, the following year, Mile Twelve was nominated for IBMA Album of Year with their 2019 sophomore release City on a Hill produced by Bryan Sutton. All of these opportunities have contributed to the development of David’s own artistic voice as an instrumentalist and composer, which is showcased in this recent solo record.

Produced by Grammy-Nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner, The Golden Angle presents an original body of instrumental string band music. This new album, recorded four years after David’s last solo release Into the True Country, displays a new level of musical maturity and individuality. With an emphasis on virtuosic instrumental interplay and memorable melodies, the record weaves a complex yet compelling soundscape, featuring collaborations with a host of celebrated and award-winning bluegrass musicians such as David Grier (guitar), Mike Barnett (fiddle), Missy Raines (bass), Ross Martin (guitar), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), and Wes Corbett (banjo).

David’s compositions, arrangements and playing style on The Golden Angle demonstrate his ability to integrate seamlessly with the high-caliber company he keeps and confirms his place among notable emerging acoustic musicians. Jazz guitar sensation Julian Lage notes, “David is one of the most inspiring lights on the creative acoustic music scene today. A talented player and composer who is paving the way for new and exciting music! I can’t wait to see where he takes us!” These compositions now are available to other mandolin players in David’s new transcription book.

David now lives full-time on the road, while continuing to perform with Mile Twelve and others. In between touring and recording, he teaches private mandolin lessons (link to Online Lessons page) from home and at music workshops around the world. Also, David is now connecting with his mandolin fans online through Patreon, with exclusive video lessons, transcriptions, performances, and more. Cup O’Joe is a close family trio who have been playing together from their early teens. They were raised in the traditions of bluegrass and folk and it is these traditions that their music is rooted in. They blend the intricate tones of bluegrass, folk and jazz to tones to create their own progressive acoustic sound. Their mix of original and re-imagined traditional songs sets the ingredients for an energetic and enthusiastic performance, and this is giving them a growing presence on the surrounding acoustic music scene in Ireland, the UK and Mainland Europe. Strong sibling harmonies can be heard throughout their music, harmonies that blend together like only sibling harmonies can.

The former Radio 2 Young Folk Award Finalists have toured extensively through Ireland, England and Central Europe over the years. In 2017 they were selected to take part in the Bluegrass Ramble at the International Bluegrass Associations week-long conference and festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, being one of the first International bands to do so.

Having appeared on many media platforms with their most recent, in providing insight of locally written Scots-Irish music on several BBC documentaries and musical exhibitions.

They are set to release their new album in January 2020, which contains nine new original songs and one traditional, whilst embodying a fresh original sound. For several tracks they are joined on mandolin by David Benedict (Mile Twelve), and on fiddle by Niall Murphy (Breaking Trad, Cara Dillon, Nathan Carter) as well as many more special guests.
