CANCELED: Mount Auburn Book Club: The Lowells of Massachusetts by Nina Sankovitch
Each month, the Mount Auburn Book Club meets to discuss a selected work related to one of Mount Auburn’s many facets. Selections range from books on history, natural history, horticulture, art, architecture, preservation, and wildlife to books written by or about those now buried and commemorated here. The Book Club meets in the Front Office Conference Room on the second Thursday of each month. Coffee and tea are provided. Free.
The Lowells of Massachusetts were a remarkable family. They were settlers in the New World in the 1600s, revolutionaries creating a new nation in the 1700s, merchants and manufacturers building prosperity in the 1800s, and scientists and artists flourishing in the 1900s. Many members of various branches of the Lowells are buried at Mount Auburn. In The Lowells of Massachusetts (2017) Nina Sankovitch tells the story of this fascinating and powerful dynasty.
