Landscape and Memory
Geographer Yi Fu Tuan tells us that language is an essential feature of place, that naming and storytelling as well as literary and scientific description help define a place’s character and inspires our experience of it. This walk with Volunteer Docent Rosemarie Smurzynski will explore Mount Auburn Cemetery, how it was shaped and continues to be shaped by those who touch it, planners, writers, workers, those buried here and are touched by it.
Experience a deeper connection to Mount Auburn Cemetery with free access to all our public programs and discounts on special events by joining the Friends of Mount Auburn. Our robust roster of programs each year is made possible through your generous support.
Funding for programs has been provided in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
