Hurricane That Changed Mount Auburn
New England’s most damaging weather event ever occurred on September 21, 1938. There were 700 fatalities, 63,000 left homeless and 275 million trees knocked down. Mount Auburn lost 800 trees in a day and several hundred others suffered significant damage. Eight decades later, join Jim Gorman, Visitor Services Assistant, for a tour of a sampling of trees replanted the following year, now displaying full maturity.
