In 1750, the Massachusetts general court banned “stage plays and other theatrical entertainments” in the state. It took a century and many able actors and entrepreneurs to reestablish theatre in Boston. On this walk with Volunteer Docent Robin Hazard Ray we’ll visit the graves of 19th-century theatrical luminaries buried at Mount Auburn, including Moses Kimball, Charlotte Cushman, Mary Ann Vincent, Edwin Booth, and William Warren, and visit some of their steadfast opponents from the Boston Watch & Ward Society.
