Pre-Civil War Boston was already responding to slavery; the abolition movement was strong here. When Fort Sumter was hit, it was positioned to be a first responder; Governor Andrew, already building a militia, sent troops forth.  On this walking tour, Volunteer Docent Rosemarie Smurzynski will introduce you to the courageous many who dedicated and sacrificed their lives to freedom.
