200 Years: Charlotte Cushman,”Considerable of a Woman”

March 1, 2016

Actress and singer Deborah Anne Goss tells the personal and professional life story of Boston-born actress Charlotte Cushman in first-person as Charlotte might have told it to her public — with anecdote and song.  A superstar actress of the English-speaking world in the 1850’s and 60’s, Charlotte maintained her respectability despite two “Boston marriages” and the male roles in her theatrical repertoire. It was a life of daring, personal hardship, and art. At the conclusion, Deborah steps back into the 21st century to reveal the startling family secret miraculously kept for over a century and a half.  Join us in Story Chapel to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of this remarkable woman.
