Death Cafe at Mount Auburn Cemetery
Join us in Story Chapel for the long-awaited return of Mount Auburn’s Death Cafes!
Following the model developed by Jon Underwood (based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz), a Death Cafe is an opportunity for people to eat cake, drink tea, and discuss death. The goal is to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.”
At Mount Auburn’s Death Cafe, attendees will have the opportunity to speak in both large and small group settings and have organic and meaningful discussions on mortality.
The Death Cafe will begin in small-group discussions with open-ended prompts. After the small group discussions, the day’s highest voted discussion topic will be revealed and current event articles on the topic will be handed out to the small groups for discussion.
Follow Mount Auburn’s Facebook and Twitter to vote on the day’s discussion topic and use the hashtag #MACDeathCafe to suggest topics and stimulate online discussion with other death-cafe-goers and organizers.
**Space is limited–Preregistration is required. Tea and Cupcakes will be served.**
This is not an end-of-life planning event, bereavement group, or grief counseling. We hope that you will come with an open mind, prepared to discuss the topic of death with strangers in a safe, respectful environment.
