Mount Auburn has two beautiful and historic chapels that are available for funeral or memorial services:
Bigelow Chapel was designed by and named for one of our founders, Dr. Jacob Bigelow. Originally built in the 1840s, the chapel can comfortably seat 75 people. Just outside the chapel is a beautiful, Victorian-inspired garden that can be used as a gathering place before or after services.
Story Chapel, designed by Willard Sears and completed in 1898, is named for Mount Auburn's first president, Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story. Recently refurbished, the chapel can comfortably seat 140 people.
Many families find it very convenient to provide refreshments for a gathering at the Cemetery after a service or interment at Mount Auburn. Using Bigelow Chapel or Bigelow Chapel Lawn for a seated meal, tea or cocktail reception provides an elegant setting to bring family and friends together without having to travel to another site.
